Mollie's bio

Mollie Rapp received her MSW degree in May 2011 from the Jane Addams College of Social Work at UIC. She came to UIC as an advanced standing student who had completed her BSW at Ball State University in 2009. Mollie completed her social work field experience at the Developmental Disabilities Family Clinics under the supervision of Linda Sandman, MSW, LCSW. She was particularly interested in an internship experience at the Clinics because of her commitment to working with people with disabilities. Mollie has extensive experience working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through Hillcroft Services in Muncie, Indiana, primarily through involvement with Camp Isanogel as a residential trainer and program assistant.

Mollie's experience with IDHD and the Family Clinics

As a social work practicum student at the clinic I was able to provide services to individuals with disabilities, families, and groups of adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. One of my favorite parts of working at the clinic was being able to work with psychologists, psychiatrists, art therapists, and other social workers. The multidisciplinary setting enabled me to learn about the different professional fields with which I would be working in the future. In addition, while I had one supervisor who provided weekly supervision to me, it was great to receive informal supervision from different professionals on the staff such as speech therapists, social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists; this gave me a very full picture of the different services people with disabilities receive at the clinic, and the different services these clients need . This placement allowed me to learn about many clinical professions, including social work. Additionally, I was able to immensely improve my clinical skills through interaction with clients and through the high caliber supervision I was given.
