Bio
Gary L. Albrecht is Professor of Public Health and of Disability and Human Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago. His current work focuses on the quality of life of disabled persons and the political economy of disability. His most recent books are the Handbook of Social Studies In Health and Medicine Sage: 2000 (with Ray Fitzpatrick and Susan Scrimshaw) and the Handbook of Disability Studies Sage: 2001 (with Katherine Seelman and Michael Bury) both of which have been released in soft back in 2003. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and in 2003 a Visiting Fellow at Nuffield, University of Oxford and Scholar in Residence at Maison des Sciences de l’ Homme (MSH), Centre de Recherche Medecine Maladie et Science Sociales (CERMES), and Centre Technique National d’Etudes et de Recherches sur les Handicaps et les Inadaptations (CTNERHI), Paris.
