Physical Therapy

Past/current experiences working in the field of disabilities:

I have had the opportunity to work with individuals with disabilities through many different activities. I have worked as a physical therapy aide for adolescents and teens with physical disabilities as well as a personal assistant to some of the students as well.  I have worked as a camp counselor and have even helped a few students in the process of becoming SCUBA certified ending in a trip to the Florida Keys where I was able to participate as a buddy diver.  I am currently involved in tailoring materials to meet the individual physical needs of the students for an art class to be held bimonthly at a rehabilitation center for children with disabilities.

Goals for your LEND training experience:

Some of my LEND goals include developing my voice as an active advocate for people with disabilities, to learn more about Autism Spectrum Disorders and how I can implement change from a physical therapy standpoint, as well as becoming more aware and involved in the family-centered aspect of care including researching and implementing resources that are available for families of children with disabilities.

What you wish to contribute, in the future, as a professional/family member in the field:

I hope to contribute by providing evidence-based physical therapy treatments to children with disabilities and acting as an advocate and resource throughout my physical therapy career.
