Physical Therapy

Past/current experiences working in the field of disabilities:

Over the years, I’ve been very involved with community programs for individuals with disabilities; especially Best Buddies, Champaign-Urbana Special Recreation, and Illinois Special Olympics. I have really enjoyed my experiences and have made a number of close friends from these programs. I’ve also spent some time in various clinics and schools observing and assisting physical therapists in their work with kids with developmental disabilities._

Goals for your LEND training experience:

To gain more experience in working with kids with disabilities in the clinical environment and insight into what leadership and advocacy in the field of disability entails. I hope my experience in this program will shape the way I practice as a pediatric PT.

What you wish to contribute, in the future, as a professional/family member in the field:

I plan on using my degree in PT to serve kids with developmental disabilities, helping them to maximize their capabilities in the physical realm and also being an advocating for them in the healthcare system and other areas of life.
