Speech Language Pathology

Past/current experiences working in the field of disabilities:

I worked as a camp counselor for three summers with the Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association (NISRA). I later worked with two wonderful children from 2006-2008 as an ABA line therapist through the Wisconsin Early Autism Project (WEAP). I have volunteered with several organizations that work with people with disabilities, including the YMCA.

Goals for your LEND training experience:

I look forward to gaining new perspectives and insights from my fellow lend trainees as well as becoming involved in the disability community here in Chicago. I am interested in learning more about disability advocacy and policy.

What you wish to contribute, in the future, as a professional/family member in the field:

I will be graduating in June 2010 with a master’s degree in speech language pathology. Because I love working directly with people, I plan on being a speech language pathologist in the schools or in a clinic. I hope to be able to utilize what I have learned in LEND and graduate school to practice evidence based treatment and assessment and continue to advocate for my clients. One day I hope to open my own clinic for children with autism.
