Bio
Robin Jones is the Director of the DBTAC - Great Lakes ADA and an Instructor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has served as director since the Center's inception in 1991. Formerly, she served as director of an independent living center in the Chicago area and as an occupational therapy practitioner at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. She has extensive experiences as a trainer regarding ADA for business, government and disability organizations. Robin has been actively involved in assisting business and government to meet their obligations under the ADA and is recognized as a key resource regarding ADA compliance and how it interfaces with other federal legislation. She has extensive experience addressing employment barriers as well as how the environment creates both barriers and opportunities for people with disabilities.
Research Interests
Disability Policy Issues including the Americans with Disabilities Act, Housing, Transportation, Community Participation and inclusion of people with disabilities in decision making processes.
Teaching Interests
Robin teaches a course on the history and implementing the ADA and serves as a guest lecturer in several Department on Disability and Human Development and Department of Occupational Therapy Courses. Her teaching interests center around policy development and analysis as it impacts the lives of people with disabilities and the structure of such policy as it is developed/revised and enforced through the state and federal legislative and judicial process. Of specific interest to Robin are the laws and implementing regulations that affect the civil rights of people with disabilities such as the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990, Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Fair Housing Act Amendments of 1988. The dual nature of Robin's career path has also lead to the development of expertise in the area of professional regulation and certification within the field of Occupational Therapy. Robin serves as a lecturer on the obligations of individuals entering into the field of Occupational Therapy to attain and maintain their professional credentials through the implementation of a professional development plan and to understand the consequences of not doing so through the disciplinary action process.
